Recipe Tip: Butter Biscuits
Top Recipe. All ingredients and tips for getting it right. This recipe for biscuits with sugar icing from Dietmar Muthenthaler, the head pastry chef at Demel, is not your typical Christmas recipe but super moreish nonetheless.
Ingredients
- 250 gfine flour
- 240 gbutter
- 150 gicing or powdered sugar
- 130 groasted ground hazelnuts
- 1 pinch(es)ground cinnamon
- 1 pinch(es)ground cloves
- 180 gicing or powdered sugar
- 2egg yolks
- 30 mlwater
Instructions
Step 1
Beat butter, icing/powdered sugar, hazelnuts, cinnamon, cloves and a little flour in a food processor.Step 2
Add remaining flour and knead until it forms a smooth dough.Step 3
Wrap in plastic wrap and let rest in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.Step 4
For the icing, blend the icing/powdered sugar, water and egg yolks in a food processor until light and fluffy.Step 5
Roll out the dough on a floured work surface to a thickness of approx. 5mm, cut into round shapes (approx. 5cm in size), then cut in half with a small knife.Step 6
Place on a baking tray lined with baking paper and bake at 160 °C until golden brown (approx. 18 min.)Step 7
Spread the icing on the top of the biscuits with a smooth knife and let dry overnight.
