Perfect with pork, as a baking ingredient or a simple porridge topper, apple sauce is easy, quick and budget-friendly to make from scratch at home
- Total:
- Serves: 4 persons
Ingredients
- 2(about 600g) bramley apples, peeled, cored and chopped into chunks
- 1tbsp golden caster sugar
- ½lemon, juiced
- 25g butter, optional
Instructions
Step 1
Tip the apples into a saucepan with the sugar, lemon juice and about 50ml water. Bring everything to a simmer, then cover the pan and cook the apples gently for about 10 mins until they collapse. Beat with a spoon to break them up completely. You now have perfectly good chunky apple sauce that needs nothing more than a grind of pepper.Step 2
If you want a smoother, richer sauce you can push the apples through a sieve and reheat the smooth apple purée with the butter before serving.
