Easy pound cake
You can count on this classic vanilla pound cake recipe. It's super easy to make and perfect for slicing thickly and enjoying with a mug of tea

Ingredients
- 200g unsalted butter, softened, plus extra for the tin
- 3large eggs
- 200g caster sugar
- 200g self-raising flour
- 1tsp baking powder
- 3tbsp whole milk
- 1tbsp vanilla bean paste

Step 1
Heat the oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Butter and line a 900g loaf tin with baking parchment. Put all of the ingredients into a large bowl and beat together, either using an electric hand whisk or a wooden spoon, until smooth and combined. Pour the mix into the loaf tin and spread evenly with the back of spoon. Bake for 40–45 mins, until a skewer inserted into the centre comes out clean.
