Bread sauce
Our classic bread sauce is flavoured with peppercorns and bay leaves and super simple to make. The perfect accompaniment to a roast dinner or Christmas lunch

Ingredients
- 25g butter
- 1onion, grated
- 600ml milk
- 6black peppercorns
- 6cloves
- 1bay leaf
- 142ml pot double cream
- 200g fresh white breadcrumbs
Instructions
Step 1
Melt the butter in a pan and cook the onion for 5 minutes until softened. Add everything else but the breadcrumbs and gently simmer for 15 minutes.Step 2
Fish out the peppercorns, cloves and bay leaf then stir in the breadcrumbs and simmer for a few minutes (add a splash more milk if you like your sauce thinner). Season and pour into a warm serving jug or bowl.
