Chocolate Waffles
Who says waffles are just for breakfast! These chocolate waffles served a la mode are a fun twist on dessert.

Ingredients
- 1 ¾cup all purpose flour
- 6tablespoons sugar
- 4teaspoons baking powder
- ½teaspoon salt
- 1cup milk
- 2large eggs
- 3tablespoons shortening
- 2ounces semisweet chocolate chips
- Cooking spray
- Cocoa powder, ice cream, chocolate sauce, for serving

Gather the ingredients.Step 2
In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.Step 3
In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and eggs.Step 4
Add the milk and egg mixture to the flour mixture; stir to combine.Step 5
Melt the shortening and chocolate in a heat-safe bowl over a pot of simmering water.Step 6
Alternately, the shortening and chocolate can be melted in a microwave-safe bowl in the microwave at 30 second intervals, stirring after each time.Step 7
Stir chocolate mixture into the waffle batter.Step 8
Preheat a waffle iron and brush with butter or coat with cooking spray to prevent sticking.Step 9
Spoon the batter into hot waffle iron and spread out toward edges. Close the lid and cook until the waffles have reached desired doneness.Step 10
Repeat with remaining waffle batter.Step 11
Dust waffles with cocoa powder just before serving.Step 12
Serve a la mode with a scoop of ice cream and a drizzle of your favorite chocolate sauce.
