Homemade Masala Chai (Chai Tea)
Powders, syrups, and tea bags can't compare to freshly brewed masala chai. Making it from scratch with this recipe takes more time but is rewarding.
- Serves: 4 persons
- 2cups milk (or milk substitute )
- 2cups water
- 4whole cloves
- 2green cardamom pods (crushed)
- 2peppercorns (crushed)
- 1cinnamon stick
- ½-inch piece ginger (peeled and chopped or grated)
- 2tablespoons sugar
- 2tablespoons black tea leaves (preferably Assam tea)
Step 1Gather the ingredients.
Step 2In a medium saucepan, combine the milk, water, and spices. Simmer over medium heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 3Add the sugar and tea leaves. Stir, and then simmer for 5 minutes.
Step 4Strain into glasses or mugs and serve.
