Easy Ful Medammes Recipe
Love hummus? You'll probably like ful medammes, a key dish in Middle Eastern cuisine that you can make with canned fava beans in no time.
- Serves: 6 persons
- 1(15-ounce) can fava beans
- 1teaspoon minced garlic, or 2 cloves, finely chopped
- ½teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1tablespoon tahini
- Pinch of salt
- 3tablespoons hot water
- 1tablespoon olive oil
- Fresh parsley, finely chopped, for garnish
Step 1In a saucepan, combine the fava beans, with their liquid, minced garlic, and fresh lemon juice . Bring it to a boil and then remove from heat.
Step 2Drain the excess liquid and coarsely mash the fava beans with a fork or a potato masher right in the pot. Return the pot to low heat. Add the tahini and salt, the hot water, and then the olive oil , 1 tablespoon at a time. Stir to your desired consistency. Add more water or olive oil, if needed. Garnish with parsley, if desired.
Step 3Serve ful for breakfast with hot pita bread.
