Warm Gingerbread Oatmeal
Homemade gingerbread oatmeal is a delicious breakfast recipe that brings spices often used in holiday cookies into a satisfying oatmeal.
- Serves: 2 persons
- 1 ¾cups milk
- 1cup old-fashioned oats
- ⅛teaspoon ground cloves
- ⅛teaspoon ground allspice
- ¼teaspoon ground ginger
- ½teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼teaspoon salt
- 3tablespoons brown sugar, packed
- 1teaspoon molasses
- Nuts, for garnish
Step 1Start by heating the milk in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
Step 2Heat until just about a boil. Add in the salt.
Step 3Add in the oats and stir to combine.
Step 4Add in the brown sugar, molasses, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, salt, and allspice, and turn the heat to low.
Step 5Cook, stirring occasionally, for about five minutes or until the oats have absorbed most of the milk.
Step 6Remove from the heat and serve immediately.
Step 7Top with chopped nuts or chopped candied ginger for extra spice.
