- ¼cup plus 1 tablespoon molasses
- 2tablespoons water
- 7 ¾cups all-purpose flour
- 1tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 2teaspoons baking soda
- 1teaspoon ground cloves
- 1teaspoon fine salt
- For the royal icing:
- 3cups powdered sugar
- 2large egg whites
- 1teaspoon lemon juice
- ⅛teaspoon cream of tartar
