Oven-Fried Onion Rings
These oven-fried onion rings are low in fat, crisp, and incredibly easy to make. The secret is the panko breadcrumbs which add a crunchy texture.
- Serves: 6 persons
- 3large egg whites
- 3tbsp. milk
- Pinch of cayenne
- 2large onions (yellow, sliced , separated into 1/2-in thick rings)
- ½cup flour (all-purpose, seasoned with salt and fresh ground black pepper to taste)
- 3to 4 cups panko (Japanese-style breadcrumbs)
- 1bottle vegetable oil spray
Step 1Gather the ingredients. Pre heat oven to 450 F.
Step 2Whisk the egg whites, milk, and cayenne together in a shallow bowl.
Step 3Spread the breadcrumbs in a shallow baking dish.
Step 4Add the onion rings to a large mixing bowl, sprinkle with the flour, and toss to coat thoroughly.
Step 5Working in batches, dip the floured onion rings first into the egg mixture, and then into the breadcrumbs to coat completely.
Step 6Transfer to baking sheets. Lightly coat the onion rings with cooking spray.
Step 7Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden-brown and crisp around the edges. Garnish with additional flaky salt before serving.
