Warm and Hearty Chili

Warm and hearty chili will keep you fueled up on cold, wintery nights!

  1. Step 1

    Gather the ingredients.
  2. Step 2

    Heat olive oil in a large Dutch oven on medium-high heat. Add chopped onion, salt and garlic and cook for 2 minutes, stirring often, until soft and fragrant.
  3. Step 3

    Add ground beef. Break up the beef so that it lays evenly in the pan. Cook until browned and completely cooked through.
  4. Step 4

    Drain the fat off of the beef, being careful not to drain off the onions. Add the spices and stir to combine. 
  5. Step 5

    Add the tomato sauce, beans if using, and water. Stir well. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 1 hour.
  6. Step 6

    Mix masa flour with water. Add to the chili. Stir and cook another 10 minutes. Salt more to taste. 
  7. Step 7

    Serve over rice, pasta, or corn chips.
