Old Fashioned Vinegar Dumplings
Old-fashioned (1940s) vinegar dumplings. These were apparently a dessert for when fruit was either not affordable or not available.

Ingredients
- 2cups of water
- 2tablespoons vegetable oil
- ½cup vinegar
- ¾cup sugar
- 1tablespoon cornstarch
- Pinch of salt
- Dumplings:
- 1cup milk
- ½cup oil
- ¼teaspoon baking soda
- 2 ½cups flour (all-purpose)
- 1teaspoon baking powder
Instructions
Step 1
In a pan, mix water and cornstarch thoroughly. Add sugar, vinegar, and salt; bring to a boil, stirring constantly.Step 2
In a bowl, mix dumpling ingredients as for drop biscuits, mixing just until blended.Step 3
Drop the dumpling dough into the boiling syrup, 1 teaspoon at a time. Cook until done. To test for doneness, stick with a toothpick to see if the center is doughy.
