Old Fashioned Vinegar Dumplings

Old-fashioned (1940s) vinegar dumplings. These were apparently a dessert for when fruit was either not affordable or not available.

  1. Step 1

In a pan, mix water and cornstarch thoroughly. Add sugar, vinegar, and salt; bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
  2. Step 2

In a bowl, mix dumpling ingredients as for drop biscuits, mixing just until blended.
  3. Step 3

Drop the dumpling dough into the boiling syrup, 1 teaspoon at a time. Cook until done. To test for doneness, stick with a toothpick to see if the center is doughy.
