Round Steak and Gravy for Supper
This round steak makes a simple everyday meal, and it's easily braised in the oven. The pan gravy is wonderful on mashed potatoes.

Ingredients
- 1to 1 1/2 pounds beef round steak
- 5tablespoons all-purpose flour, divided
- 2tablespoons vegetable oil
- salt, to taste
- pepper to taste
- 1cup beef broth
- 2teaspoons dried parsley flakes
- 1teaspoon sugar
- ½teaspoon dried leaf thyme, crumbled
- ⅓cup water
- ½teaspoon Kitchen Bouquet browning sauce, optional

Step 1
Gather the ingredients.Step 2
Cut round steak into serving-size pieces.Step 3
Put 2 tablespoons of flour in a bowl and dredge steak portions to coat.Step 4
In an ovenproof skillet or sauté pan over medium heat, brown round steak in hot oil.Step 5
Season with salt and pepper; add beef broth, parsley, sugar, and thyme.Step 6
Cover and transfer to oven; bake at 350 F for 1 1/2 hours, or until round steak is tender.Step 7
Remove round steak to a serving platter.Step 8
Measure pan juices into a large measuring cup; add enough water to make 1 1/2 cups. Return juices and water to pan and place over medium-low heat.Step 9
Combine the remaining 3 tablespoons of flour with 1/3 cup cold water; stir with a fork or whisk until smooth; stir into pan juices and add the Kitchen Bouquet or other browning sauce.Step 10
Cook, constantly stirring, until thickened and bubbly.Step 11
Serve gravy over round steak.
