Old-Fashioned Hot Chocolate With Variations
This old-fashioned hot chocolate is made with squares of unsweetened chocolate, milk, and flavorings. Top it with marshmallows or try a variation.
- Serves: 4 persons
- 2ounces unsweetened chocolate
- ⅓cup white granulated sugar
- 4cups whole milk
- 1pinch salt
- ½teaspoon vanilla extract
- Marshmallow creme or fluff, or whipped cream , for garnish
Step 1Gather the ingredients.
Step 2In a 2-quart saucepan, place the chocolate, sugar, milk, and salt. Over medium-low heat, stir gently with whisk until the chocolate melts and the mixture is well blended.
Step 3Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
Step 4Pour the hot chocolate into mugs and top with a spoonful of marshmallow creme or whipped cream, if desired.
