- 4pounds/1.8 kilograms apples
- ¼cup/57 grams light brown sugar, or 3 tablespoons honey; optional

- ⅛teaspoon ground nutmeg; optional
- 1cup/236 milliliters water
- 1tablespoon/15 milliliters lemon juice
Instructions
Step 1
Gather the ingredients.Step 2
Wash the apples. If they feel waxy, scrub with a vegetable brush. Cut into slices or chunks no thicker than 3/4-inch.Step 3
Combine the water and lemon juice. If you are using honey rather than sugar, dissolve it in the water.Step 4
Put the prepped apple pieces into the slow cooker and mix them with the sugar and spices, if using.Step 5
Pour the reserved water mixture over the apples. Give all of the ingredients in the slow cooker a good stir.Step 6
Cover the slow cooker. Cook the applesauce on the low setting for 6 hours or on the high setting for 3 hours.Step 7
Depending on the consistency you'd like, run the sauce through a food mill using coarser or finer screens as desired. If you want extra-smooth applesauce, purée it in a food processor or blender, or use an immersion blender.Step 8
Enjoy!
