This applesauce is super easy to make because it cooks in a crock pot while you are doing something else.

  1. Step 1

    Gather the ingredients.
  2. Step 2

Wash the apples. If they feel waxy, scrub with a vegetable brush. Cut into slices or chunks no thicker than 3/4-inch.
  3. Step 3

Combine the water and lemon juice. If you are using honey rather than sugar, dissolve it in the water.
  4. Step 4

Put the prepped apple pieces into the slow cooker and mix them with the sugar and spices, if using.
  5. Step 5

Pour the reserved water mixture over the apples. Give all of the ingredients in the slow cooker a good stir.
  6. Step 6

Cover the slow cooker. Cook the applesauce on the low setting for 6 hours or on the high setting for 3 hours.
  7. Step 7

Depending on the consistency you'd like, run the sauce through a food mill using coarser or finer screens as desired. If you want extra-smooth applesauce, purée it in a food processor or blender, or use an immersion blender.
