Slow Cooker Applesauce
This applesauce is super easy to make because it cooks in a crock pot while you are doing something else.
- Serves: 12 persons
- 4pounds/1.8 kilograms apples
- ¼cup/57 grams light brown sugar, or 3 tablespoons honey; optional
- ¼teaspoon ground cinnamon; optional
- ⅛teaspoon ground nutmeg; optional
- 1cup/236 milliliters water
- 1tablespoon/15 milliliters lemon juice
Step 1Gather the ingredients.
Step 2Wash the apples. If they feel waxy, scrub with a vegetable brush. Cut into slices or chunks no thicker than 3/4-inch.
Step 3Combine the water and lemon juice. If you are using honey rather than sugar, dissolve it in the water.
Step 4Put the prepped apple pieces into the slow cooker and mix them with the sugar and spices, if using.
Step 5Pour the reserved water mixture over the apples. Give all of the ingredients in the slow cooker a good stir.
Step 6Cover the slow cooker. Cook the applesauce on the low setting for 6 hours or on the high setting for 3 hours.
Step 7Depending on the consistency you'd like, run the sauce through a food mill using coarser or finer screens as desired. If you want extra-smooth applesauce, purée it in a food processor or blender, or use an immersion blender.
