Chocolate Chip Cookies With Variations
This version of the famous classic chocolate chip cookie is made with butter along with optional chopped pecans or walnuts.

Ingredients
- 2 ½cups all-purpose flour
- 1teaspoon baking soda
- ¾teaspoon salt
- 1cup granulated sugar
- ½cup light brown sugar (firmly packed)
- 1cup butter (or margarine, room temperature)
- 2large eggs
- 2teaspoons vanilla extract (pure)
- 2cups semisweet chocolate chips (one 12-ounce bag)
- Optional: 1 to 2 cups chopped walnuts (or pecans)

Gather the ingredients.Step 2
Heat the oven to 375 F/190 C/Gas 5. Lightly grease baking sheets or line them with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.Step 3
In a bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt; stir to blend the dry ingredients thoroughly.Step 4
In a mixing bowl with an electric mixer on medium-high speed, beat the granulated and brown sugars with the butter until light and fluffy.Step 5
Add the eggs, beating well after each addition.Step 6
Beat in the vanilla extract.Step 7
Add the dry ingredients into the butter and sugar mixture and beat on medium speed just until blended.Step 8
Add the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts or pecans, if using. Fold until well incorporated.Step 9
Drop the cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheets by tablespoonfuls, leaving about 2 inches between cookies.Step 10
