Cuban White Bean Soup

    Gather the ingredients.
  2. Step 2

    Drain and rinse white beans that have been soaking overnight. 
  3. Step 3

    Place beans, water, bay leaves, salt pork, and ham hocks in a soup pot and bring to a boil over medium heat.
  4. Step 4

    Reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 1 1/2 hours.
  5. Step 5

    Remove salt pork and discard.
  6. Step 6

    Remove ham hocks and shred meat from bones.
  7. Step 7

    Put shredded meat back into soup pot.
  8. Step 8

    In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté onions and garlic until soft and translucent.
  9. Step 9

    Add onions to soup pot, along with cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
