German mini nut bars (Nussecken) are often cut into triangles. These are made with hazelnuts but feel free to substitute your favorite nut instead.

- Crust:
- 5tablespoons/65 grams margarine (or butter-flavored Crisco)
- ⅓cup/65 grams sugar
- ¼teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1large room-temperature egg
- 1cup 3 tablespoons/150 grams all-purpose flour
- ½teaspoon baking powder
- ½teaspoon salt
- 2to 3 tablespoons apricot jam
- Nut Filling:
- 7tablespoons/100 grams butter
- ½cup sugar
- 1teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1tablespoon water
- 1cup/100 grams hazelnuts (ground)
- ¾cup/100 grams hazelnuts (whole, chopped, or 1 extra cup ground hazelnuts)

- 1teaspoon butter
