Basic Cinnamon Apple Crisp With Oat Topping
This is a basic apple crisp recipe made with fresh sliced apples, brown sugar, spices, and butter and a topping made with butter, flour, and oats.

Ingredients
- 4to 6 medium tart apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (about 4 to 5 cups)
- 2tablespoons lemon juice
- ½cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
- 2tablespoons all-purpose flour
- ½to 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼teaspoon nutmeg
- For the Topping:
- ⅓cup granulated sugar
- ½cup all-purpose flour
- ½cup quick-cooking oats
- 6tablespoons (3 ounces) unsalted butter, melted
- For Serving:
- Ice cream or whipped cream, optional
