Sticky Chicken is an easy and delicious skillet recipe using brown sugar, honey, soy sauce, and vinegar as a marinade.
- Serves: 8 persons
- ½cup balsamic vinegar
- ½cup low sodium soy sauce
- ½cup chicken broth
- ¼cup sugar
- ¼cup brown sugar
- ¼cup honey
- 3garlic cloves (minced)
- 1to 2 tablespoons grated fresh ginger root
- ⅛teaspoon pepper
- 2pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts
Step 1Combine all of the ingredients except the chicken in a shallow baking dish and stir until the sugars dissolve.
Step 2Add the chicken and turn to coat well.
Step 3Cover the dish tightly with foil and chill in the refrigerator for at least 24 hours.
Step 4When you are ready to eat, transfer the chicken and the marinade to a large heavy nonstick skillet.
Step 5Bring to a boil over medium heat.
Step 6Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer for 8 to 13 minutes, moving each piece around with tongs occasionally.
Step 7Check the breasts for doneness (160 F on an instant-read thermometer ) and remove to a shallow pan as soon as they test done.
Step 8Cover the cooked chicken and place in a warm oven to keep warm.
Step 9Increase the heat to medium when the chicken is all cooked and removed from the pan, and cook the marinade remaining in the skillet until syrupy, stirring occasionally at first, then stirring constantly as the mixture starts to thicken. This should take about 4 to 7 minutes total.
Step 10Return the chicken to the skillet, coat it with the sauce, and serve sticky chicken immediately - with lots of hot cooked rice and napkins!
