Homemade tonkatsu sauce
Make this Japanese-style barbecue sauce to serve with crispy tofu, katsu chicken or your favourite Japanese dishes – it's a great blend of sweet and savoury

Ingredients
- 5 ½tbsp ketchup
- 2tbsp Worcestershire sauce or vegan alternative
- 1tbsp tamari soy or dark soy sauce
- 2tsp oyster sauce (vegan, if needed) or brown sauce
- 1tbsp date syrup or honey
- 2tsp muscovado sugar
- 1tbsp ground white sesame seeds (optional)
Instructions
Step 1
Put all the ingredients in an airtight jar or container, then mix well until combined. Taste for seasoning, adding more sugar or soy sauce, if needed. Stir in the ground white sesame seeds, if using. Will keep chilled for one month.
