Polish Strawberry Kissel
This recipe for Polish Strawberry Kissel (kisiel truskawkowy) is a simple fruit dessert common in Eastern Europe.
- Serves: 6 persons
- 1cup water
- ½cup sugar, or more to taste based on the sweetness of fruit
- 3tablespoons potato starch (NOT potato flour) or 4 tablespoons cornstarch
- ½cup cold water
- 1pound strawberries , hulled, washed, and crushed
Step 1Gather the ingredients.
Step 2In a large saucepan, bring to boil the 1 cup water and sugar. Remove from heat.
Step 3Dissolve potato starch in 1/2 cup cold water and stir into the sugar-water mixture. Return to the heat and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
Step 4Add strawberries and mix well.
Step 5Portion into individual dessert bowls or 1 large bowl that has been rinsed with cold water. Place in the refrigerator until firm, about 3 hours.
Step 6Serve with cream, half-and-half, milk, or whipped cream .
