Grilled Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich
A PB&J is pretty good no matter how you make it, but grilling it makes it glorious. If you toast the sandwich in a buttered skillet, like you would a grilled cheese, the outsides brown while the peanut butter and jam warm and ooze — no more tacky peanut butter stuck to the roof of your mouth. (And that’s right: This sandwich is best with fruit jam or preserves, not jelly.) It’s still a trusty PB&J, but warm, creamy and crisp. It might become your new standby.

Ingredients
- Peanut butter
- 2slices white or wheat sandwich bread
- Fruit jam or preserves, such as strawberry or grape
- ½tablespoon unsalted butter, plus more as needed
- Salt (optional)
Instructions
Step 1
Spread a thin layer of peanut butter on one piece of bread. Spread a thin layer of jam on the second piece. Sandwich the slices together.Step 2
In a medium skillet, warm half the butter over medium. Once nearly melted, add the sandwich. Slide the bread around to absorb the butter, adding more butter if the pan is dry. Cook until golden brown, 1 to 2 minutes, adjusting the heat as needed to avoid burning.Step 3
Flip the sandwich, add the remaining butter and swirl the bread to coat. Cook until golden brown, 1 to 2 minutes. Sprinkle lightly with salt if using, then cut in half and eat right away.
