Squash and Apple Casserole
This family favorite makes a wonderful addition to your festive table. Sweet and hearty. Wonderful with turkey or ham. Cranberries are optional and can be sprinkled on top for a Christmas version.

Ingredients
- 2pounds buttercup squash, halved and seeded
- 2baking apples, cut into 1/2-inch slices, or more to taste
- ½cup packed brown sugar
- ¼cup butter, melted
- 1tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1teaspoon salt
- ½teaspoon ground mace
- ½cup dried cranberries
Instructions
Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a 9x11-inch casserole dish.Step 2
Place squash on a flat work surface. Trim off the hard outer rind with a knife. Cut squash into 1/2-inch slices; arrange slices over the bottom of the prepared dish. Arrange apples on top.Step 3
Combine brown sugar, butter, flour, salt, and mace together in a bowl. Pour mixture over the apples. Sprinkle cranberries on top.Step 4
Bake in the preheated oven until top is golden brown and apples are tender, 50 minutes to 1 hour.
