French Macaroni and Cheese Recipe
This French macaroni and cheese recipe features macaroni, crème fraîche, and Gruyère, Cantal, or cheddar cheese. French-style macaroni and cheese.

- 16ounces small macaroni
- 1clove garlic , cut in half lengthwise
- 2tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 ¼cups crème fraîche
- 2cups Gruyère cheese , shredded, divided
- 2cups Cantal cheese, shredded, divided
- ½teaspoon salt
- ¼teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
- ⅓cup dry breadcrumbs
Step 1Preheat the oven to 350 F.
Step 2Prepare the macaroni according to package instructions and drain it.
Step 3While the macaroni is boiling, rub the cut end of the garlic across the entire inner surface of a 3-quart baking dish.
Step 4Brush the same surface with the melted butter.
Step 5Pour the drained macaroni into the prepared baking dish.
Step 6Stir the crème fraiche, 1 1/2 cups of the shredded cheeses, salt, and pepper into the pasta.
Step 7Sprinkle the breadcrumbs and the remaining Gruyère and Cantal over the surface of the macaroni and cheese.
Step 8Bake the casserole, uncovered, for 20 to 25 minutes, until it is hot and bubbly throughout and turns light golden brown on top.
Step 9Serve immediately.
