Eggs in a Basket
Our eggs in a basket recipe is easy enough for kids to make; simply cut out the center of a piece of toast, break an egg in the hole, cook and serve!
- Serves: 2 persons
- 3teaspoons butter (divided)
- 2slices whole-wheat bread
- 2large eggs
- Kosher salt (to taste)
- Freshly ground pepper (to taste)
Step 1Gather the ingredients.
Step 2Use a cookie cutter to cut out your favorite shape in the center of each piece of bread.
Step 3Butter 1 side of each piece of bread, including the cutout pieces, with the remaining butter.
Step 4Heat a large frying pan over medium-high heat and melt 1 teaspoon of butter in the pan.
Step 5Place the bread on the griddle with the butter-side down.
Step 6Break 1 egg into a small dish and gently slide it into the hole in the bread.
Step 7If the pan is big enough to cook both at the same time, repeat the process with the remaining egg and bread slice.
Step 8Cook until the egg is golden on the bottom, 1 to 2 minutes.
Step 9Gently flip to cook on the other side, about 1 minute. Place on serving plate and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Step 10Toast the cutout pieces on both sides, approximately 1 minute per side.
Step 11Serve the toast immediately and decorate with the cutout pieces.
