Baked Parmesan Vidalia Onions
Learn how to make your own sweet and buttery blooming onions topped with Parmesan cheese that is perfectly paired with steak, soup, or salad.
- Serves: 4 persons
- 4large sweet onions
- 4tablespoons butter, cold; divided
- 1teaspoon salt, or to taste
- ¼teaspoon black pepper
- 14to 16 tablespoons Parmesan cheese , grated; or to taste
- Garnish: Chopper parsley or chives, to taste
Step 1Gather the ingredients.
Step 2Preheat the oven to 400 F. Peel the onions. Shave the roots a bit to neaten them but don't remove the root end.
Step 3Cut each onion into eighths, cutting just to the root, but not through. Very gently slightly separate the layers of the onion.
Step 4Place each onion on a large, lightly greased square of foil.
Step 5Cut 1 tablespoon of butter into very small pieces and scatter the pieces over the onion and among the layers. Sprinkle the onion with salt and pepper and about 3 to 4 tablespoons of the Parmesan cheese. Repeat with the remaining onions.
Step 6Wrap the foil around each onion to seal and arrange them in a 9 x 13 x 2-inch baking pan .
Step 7Bake in the preheated oven for about 1 hour.
Step 8Serve and enjoy!
