Moroccan Lamb Tagine With Dates
A tagine is a traditional Moroccan dish, and this sweet and spicy lamb recipe in a cinnamon and honey syrup is topped with dates.

Ingredients
- 2pounds 3 ounces tender lamb, or beef, cut into 2- or 3-inch pieces
- 2medium onions, grated
- 3cloves of garlic, pressed or finely chopped
- 1teaspoon salt
- 1teaspoon ginger
- 1teaspoon pepper
- ½teaspoon saffron threads , crumbled
- ½teaspoon turmeric
- ¼teaspoon white pepper, optional
- ¼teaspoon ras el hanout, optional
- 1cinnamon stick
- ¼cup olive oil
- ¼cup vegetable oil, or butter
- 2 ½cups water
- Small handful cilantro sprigs, tied into a bouquet
- 1 ½cups dates, such as Medjool
- 2tablespoons sugar, or honey
- 1 ½teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1tablespoon toasted sesame seeds , optional
- Handful fried almonds, optional
