Thanksgiving Sesame Seed White Bread
Homemade white bread topped with sesame seeds is such a delicious starter no matter what time of year it is, but especially during the holiday season.
- Serves: 20 persons
- 2cups water (room temperature)
- 1tablespoon active dry yeast
- 2tablespoons sugar
- 1tablespoon butter (or margarine, softened)
- 1tablespoon salt
- 6cups bread flour
- Optional: sesame seeds (raw or toasted)
- 1egg white
Step 1Gather the ingredients.
Step 2In medium bowl, mix water and yeast.
Step 3Add sugar, butter, and salt and stir to combine.
Step 4Add 3 cups of bread flour and mix well. Slowly add in remaining flour, enough flour to make a dough that follows the spoon around the bowl.
Step 5Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface and knead for 8 minutes, adding more flour as needed until the dough is soft and smooth to the touch.
Step 6Place dough in large greased bowl. Turn dough over in bowl so that the top is also lightly greased.
Step 7Cover with clean cloth and let rise in warm, draft-free place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Step 8Punch down dough .
Step 9Turn dough out onto lightly floured board and knead for 8 minutes or until the bubbles are out of the bread.
Step 10Divide dough into 2 equal pieces. Shape each half into a loaf of bread. Set loaves into greased 8 x 4-inch bread pans.
Step 11Cover and let rise in warm, draft-free place for 45 minutes or until doubled in size.
Step 12Brush loaves with egg white and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Step 13Bake at 375 F for 45 minutes or until the bread is golden brown.
Step 14Remove loaves from sheet and let cool on rack.
Step 15Serve and enjoy!
